Sub sandwiches are one of those things where like, how could you go wrong? Bread, cheese, meat, done. But in my extensive sub connoisseur experience, it can be completely out of this world, or essentially a warmed up sandwich. A warm sandwich does not a sub make, my friends. A while ago I was Pinteresting (yep, that’s a verb now!) looking for a really fantastic, next-level sub. And I found it in Wonky Wonderful’s Hot Italian Subs The secret here is the buttered and seasoned sub bun that makes these Hot Italian Subs restaurant-quality. And unlike in a restaurant, you control exactly how toasty you get these bad boys – I’ve definitely been underwhelmed by my toastiness level at restaurants..
Hot Italian Subs Recipe How To:
The ingredient list on these sub sandwiches is simple: turkey, salami, pepperoni, cheese, butter, Italian seasoning and sub buns.
Feel free to drop in some grown-up sub fillers like olives, peppers, the sky’s the limit on this one. I’d like to say the kids are picky eaters at my house, but it’s actually me, I’m the problem.
First up, melt your butter, spread it on your both sides of your buns and sprinkle on some Italian seasoning. This is the step that takes these subs to the next level. A little butter and seasoning, but this is it, folks.
Next, fill up the sub sandwich with your choice of fixin’s. I like to get crazy with the cheese, so I saved that for last.
Layer the subs in your dish, seam side down.
Get wild with some shredded cheese and layer it on. Final step, pop it in a 350° oven for 10 minutes.
That’s it! Dinner’s handled with some Hot Italian Subs that you can customize to your tastes. How did you customize this recipe for your family? I’d love to hear in the comments.
