Living in Yellow is a style blogger that’s paired with the Gibson line at Nordstrom with other style bloggers for a Glam Squad collection that’s perfect for the holidays. Lots of sequins, velvet and bows for pretty holiday looks! This post contains affiliate links.
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! I’m a little behind on my emails because we’ve been battling various sicknesses all weekend. Still a good Thankgsiving, but I did discover #1 There’s a reason why toddlers are conspicuously absent from Norman Rockwell’s paintings of calm family gatherings. High highs and low lows with that crowd and #2 Do you really know the meaning of family togetherness if you haven’t watched your kids battle it out Gladiator-style over a cup of fruit punch? Yikes.
On the plus side, I have a review of the Living in Yellow line that just launched and I previewed in my Instagram stories. Just last month Living in Yellow launched a cozy line at Nordstrom that was fabulous (see my Living in Yellow cozy line review here) So I had high hopes for the Glam Squad collection. Not a lot of formal events come my way, but when I do need to shop for them I’m never wowed. Like I’m not going to prom, or to a club, but I’m also not going on a senior’s cruise. Why is there no in between? Same on the price points. It’s either crazy expensive for something you’re only going to wear once, or the price is good, but the material isn’t great and just doesn’t look or feel that elegant. So I had high hopes for some trendy an affordable party pieces.

So right off the bat as I shopped the collection online, I was thrilled. A lot of these pieces look like how I would dress if I lived in a Hallmark Christmas movie. Great colors and fabrics and lots of great pieces overall, but I was really surprised to see no dress options. Also, the collection is lots of great tops, but a little light on the bottoms. There were two joggers and a skirt — now a skirt I can make work for the winter, but I don’t see how I can do that with a jogger. Illinois is cold. I’ll sacrifice some personal comfort for style, but I definitely would need to wear some pantyhose with the joggers if I didn’t want to totally freeze and I think there’s a reason a pantyhose/jogger combo hasn’t caught on. But I’ve paired them with some great Kohl’s bottoms that I ordered to try, and I think it works! The spaghetti strap items from this collection were also a no-go as I have no plans to wear a strapless bra ever again. But a lot of the other pieces were possibilities! Living in Yellow said to size up on a lot of these pieces, so you’ll note that I went a size up on almost everything. You can check out the full collection here.
Gibson x Glam Squad Megan Sequin Embellished Scoop Back Top, $54
My take: You know, I love rose gold but I don’t think it loves me back. I think it’s too close to my winter skin tone to be a flattering color. This piece was so cute on some of the other bloggers I’ve seen it on, but I just don’t think it’s great on me. I’m doing a sassy arm pose, but I wouldn’t say I’m feeling a sassy arm pose, you know?
Full details: I’m wearing the XL in the Rose Gold. Available in XS-XXL in two colors. Find it here.
Gibson x Glam Squad Cassie V-Neck Sequin Tank, $59
My take: Hmm, same as above. I think it could be a win in another color. Now it’s been a while since I’ve worn a sequin top, but I used to hit the shiny top scene pretty hard in the early 2000’s and I forgot that sequin tops without sleeves will absolutely tear up the underside of your arms. Walking around in a chicken type pose is a no go for me, so I don’t think I can make this one work. There absolutely was a time when I would sacrifice comfort for looks, but that ship has sailed for me.
Full details: I’m wearing XL in the Rose Gold. Available in XS-XXL, in two colors. Find it here.
Gibson x Glam Squad Tara Bow Detail Velvet Top , $42
My take: Now we’re talking! A fancy top that’s comfortable, doesn’t need a strapless bra and is a great fit. Yes!!
Full details: I’m wearing XL in the Red. Available in XS-XXL in three colors. Find it here.
Gibson x Glam Squad Lace Skirt, $54
My take: This one isn’t the skirt’s fault, but any bottom that’s not 100% stretch just isn’t going to work on me. I almost just did a shot of the skirt in a flat lay because it’s so unflattering on me. But if you don’t need bottoms that are essentially a piece of Lycra in disguise, this might be a good bet for you.
Full details: I’m wearing the XL in Black Nude Lining. Available in XS-XXL in one color. Find it here.
Gibson x Glam Squad Sequin Flutter Sleeve Top, $54
My take: So I was right, and the all sequin tops are way better on me in a different color. Same situation with the “no sleeves sequin tops arm scratcher” scenario though.
Full details: I’m wearing the XL in Black. Available in XS-XXL in two colors. Find it here. Paired with Apt. 9 Brynn Pull-on Skinny Dress Pants, find them here.
Gibson x Glam Squad Plissé Faux Wrap Top, $49
My take: Another great one! This is tied for #1 with the velvet bow top. I like the 70’s vibe here and the fabric is shiny but not scratchy and has a great drape. I also love the hidden button that keeps the drape closed. Love this one!
Full details: I’m wearing XL in Black. Available in XS-XXL in two colors. Find it here. Paired with Vera Wang Ponte Pants, in Winetasting, find them here.
Gibson x Glam Squad Velvet Flutter Sleeve Shirt, $39
My take: Cute — I love anything in a red velvet to be totally honest. But I would say that it’s a far second to the velvet bow top and they’re just too similar to justify both. A good option if you want velvet with a sleeve though!
Full details: I’m wearing XL in Red. Available in XS-XXL in two colors. Find it here. Paired with Apt. 9 Tummy Control Pencil Skirt in Black, find it here.
