Stitch Fix Review #2

Stitch Fix Review #2!  For anyone wondering, “Stitch what?”  Stitch Fix is a styling service where you fill out a profile and a stylist chooses five pieces (clothes, shoes, accessories) to send your way for a $20 styling fee.  If you keep anything from your fix your $20 fee is applied as a credit and if you keep all five things, you receive a 25% discount on your whole fix.  You have three business days to make your choices and anything you don’t like gets popped into a prepaid envelope and dropped into the mail.  Basically Stitch Fix is a mail order personal shopper. I’ll be totally honest, I did not follow my own advice about Stitch Fix AT ALL this month.  I was working so hard to launch the blog that I don’t even think that I left my stylist a note about what I would like in this fix.  So it goes without saying that I didn’t really pin or give my stylist any guidance at all other than my feedback from last month’s fix

I have a video and a written review, so if you’d rather read it or watch it, I’ve got you covered 🙂  Okay, so first up …

Stitch Fix Piece #1 Calvin Klein Suit Separates, Roxanne Lace Detail Blouse, $68

stitch fix review

Initial thoughtsI really like the lace yoke and the flutter sleeve, but black is not a go-to color for me.  The brigher the better in my book!

The Try-on:  It was very pretty on and coordinated with these pants from a previous fix perfectly.  I know I would feel like a total boss striding around the office in this, but I wouldn’t pair it with jeans so I couldn’t justify the cost for a top that goes with one pair of pants.  Not that I wouldn’t do that, I just wouldn’t do that at this particular price!

The VerdictReturned!

Stitch Fix Piece #2 41 Hawthorn, Carla Crochet Detail Blouse, $58

stitch fix review

Initial thoughts I really liked the cut and crochet detailing of this blouse and it looked like it could easily be dressed up or down.  Not wild about the color because like I said I really like bright colors/prints for spring and summer.  Don’t want to get lost in a crowd, hehe.

The Try-on The fit was great and I love how it paired with a printed pant.  I don’t think muted colors are very flattering on me though or really a good fit for my style.

Stitch Fix Piece #3 Calvin Klein, Renata Cold Shoulder Maxi Dress, $118

stitch fix review

Initial thoughts I think maxi dresses look amazing on so many people, but I am not one of those people.  In my style profile I’ve specified no maxis, but I didn’t reiterate it in my note.  That being said, the color palette is totally me and I was intrigued by the cold shoulder aspect of the dress.

The Try-onNope!  I feel like I resemble a floral-covered roll of toilet paper.  Just not a flattering shape on me at all!

The Verdict: Returned!

Stitch Fix Piece #4: Goldray, Cloe Romper, $68

stitch fix review

Initial thoughtsI was really intrigued … the length looked way better than the romper from my previous fix, but it was still that 3/4 sleeve/shorts combo that I feel like is such a short season.  I don’t wear a lot of black, but this looked super sleek and trendy.

The Try-onDang, I loved this!  The neckline was just low enough to be interesting without being a total free show, the shorts length was perfect.  It felt just as sleek and trendy as it looked in the preview.  It was super hard to put this in the return mailer, and I even pulled it back out once, but I just think the shorts are too chilly for the spring we’ve been having but the sleeve length will be too warm for the summers we typically get.  If I had a specific event like a bachelorette party coming up, I would so have been keeping this!

spoonful of easy

The VerdictReturned, but begrudgingly!

Stitch Fix Piece #5: Bay to Baubles, Simona Station Necklace

stitch fix review

Initial thoughts:  Kinda whelmed by this piece (not overwhelmed or underwhelmed, just whelmed :))  It seems pretty standard and I have a lot of necklaces that aren’t too terribly different from this one.

The Try-on:  You’ll see it styled with the Carla Crochet Detail Blouse and the Renata Cold Should Maxi Dress above.  It felt a little more heavyweight than a lot of costume jewelry, but for $34 it wasn’t so dissimilar from pieces I already own.

The VerdictReturned!

Video review here:

This was my first 0/5 fix, which is a bummer.  But I am going to diligently take my own advice this next month and see if it really makes a difference for next month’s Stitch Fix review.  So I’m a little bummed, but also feel like I have been supporting the economy single-handedly the past month or two buying spring and summer clothes, so my wallet wasn’t sad to take a breather  :).  If you saw anything that inspired your next fix, you can always pin right from the page, or I have a Pinterest board just for the screenshots here if that’s easier for you.

Next month it’s all about the bright colors/prints and I’m going to put in my first request for shoes! What’s on your fix wish list?  I’d love to hear in the comments.
