Stitch Fix Review #1! For anyone wondering, “Stitch what?” Stitch Fix is a styling service where you fill out a profile and a stylist chooses five pieces (clothes, shoes, accessories) to send your way for a $20 styling fee. If you keep anything from your fix your $20 fee is applied as a credit and if you keep all five things, you receive a 25% discount on your whole fix. You have three business days to make your choices and anything you don’t like gets popped into a prepaid envelope and dropped into the mail. Basically it’s a mail order personal shopper. This isn’t my first fix, but this is my first reviewed fix. I was hoping for spring/summer pieces, but I will say my box arrived a few days after a late season snowstorm. My skin tone could best be described as “ain’t seen the sunshine since I don’t know when.” Point being: it was tough to put on and take a picture/record in some of these pieces! But I like seeing real clothes on real people and I hope you do too! I have a video and a written review, so if you’d rather read it or watch it, I’ve got you covered :).

Here was my note going into my fix (instead of my usual psycho constant updating of the note, I went simple this time.)
Stitch Fix Piece #1: Wisp Tressa Ponte Dress $74
Initial thoughts: I loved the bright colors on the black background on this one and I always love a ponte dress. I don’t have any weddings or really dressy occasions coming up, so I’m not sure exactly how I would fit this in my wardrobe.
The Try-on: I was surprised this was a cotton ponte, where I was expecting more of a nylon scuba knit. It made it a lot less dressy than I was anticipating, which I liked, but it was also shorter than I was hoping. So it’s too dressy for my date night style, but too short for a work dress. No clear place to wear this one
The Verdict: Returned!
Stitch Fix Piece #2 The Leota Lula Knit Dress $78
Initial thoughts: My initial thought was, “Ugh, Homecoming 1998.” Nothing about this dress seemed trendy in the least. I loved the color and was hoping it fit much different than it looked, but I was zero excited about this piece.
The Try-on: This was everything I was afraid it was going to be and more. It does not look trendy, I actually look like I’m attending a cruise but like 35 years from now. I’m heavier up top and the ruching isn’t doing me any favors. The length and color are good, but I couldn’t put this in the return mailer fast enough.
The Verdict: Returned!
Stitch Fix Piece #3: Skies are Blue Talula Romper, $68
Initial thoughts: I’m trying to get away from a boho vibe, and this seemed extremely boho. Also, I like the idea, but not the reality of a longer sleeve up top and a shorts on the bottom. There just isn’t any weather that really accommodates that look. I love pairing a cardigan or something with a shorts outfit, with the idea being that as it warms up or cools down you can add that piece back in.
The Try-on: Nope! I want to keep at it on finding a cute fun romper, but this was not it. It really wasn’t long enough in the torso, and it was way too short for my lifestyle. No way I could bend down to pick up a kid in this one. I did love that this pieces had pockets ~ designers take note, women like to store stuff too ~ but this was a pass.
The Verdict: Returned!
Stitch Fix Piece #4: Z Supply Coopie Knit Pocket Tee, $34
Initial thoughts: Possibly a good basic layering piece. I’m nervous that it’s all white because ~ kids ~ and I don’t typically wear plain tees like this, so it’s something different for me.
The Try-on: It’s very drapey and a really luxurious feeling knit. I liked that the v-neck wasn’t too low and the tunic length felt good. At first I thought it was just a bit too drapey and it showed every bit of everything under the tee. I had planned to return it, but then I tried it on with the final piece and had a last minute change of heart!
The Verdict: Kept!
Stitch Fix Piece #5 Finnegan Printed Short, $58
Initial thoughts: I was most excited about this piece! A great print, hopefully a good length and a piece that could be dressed up a bit or stay casual.
The Try-on: This was everything I hoped it would be and more! A great fit, structured like a chino, but a good amount of stretch too. Also shorts length for over-30 has been so hard for me. Everything is MTV Spring Break style or 1950’s camp counselor. Can’t we be trendy and not make it a total free show? Yes, it turns out we can! Another win here — pockets! And I tried an alternative style on the Coopie Tee and really liked the way these two looked together. These shorts were so great that they influenced my keeping another piece.
The Verdict: Kept!
